May 8, 2019- A DUI car crash killed one in Chowchilla, on Wednesday. The Madera County automobile collision occurred on Robertson Boulevard, at around 9:30 PM.
Sidney Kelley, 20, of Oakland, was driving a gold Ford while under the influence of drugs, on northbound Highway 99. Officers noticed that the vehicle was driving erratically on the freeway and attempted to stop it.
Kelley evaded the CHP by taking the Robertson Boulevard exit, in Chowchilla. The Ford ended up swerving into the oncoming lane of traffic on Robertson and striking the bumper of another car, then drifting into a dirt field.
The driver then got back onto Robertson and continued down the street accelerating to a speed of more than 100 mph. The vehicle lost control north of Avenue 23 1/2 and crashed into a palm tree.
A 17-year-old Fresno girl who was a passenger in the Ford, died at the scene.
Kelley suffered unknown injuries and was taken to Community Regional Medical Center, in Fresno.
The driver was arrested for vehicular manslaughter, evading police, driving without a license, and felony DUI.
