February 18, 2018- A head-on automobile collision killed one near Hanford, on Sunday. The Kings County car crash happened on Highway 198, at approximately 1:50 AM.
Lucia Gomez, of Visalia, was driving a 2016 Hyundai Elantra westbound on the SR 198 freeway. The impaired driver veered over into the eastbound lanes and continued to drive into oncoming traffic.
One vehicle swerved out of the way of the Hyundai, but a 2015 Toyota Rav4, which was driving behind the other car was unable to avoid the Elantra. The auto smashed into the SUV.
The female driver of the Toyota suffered fatal injuries. She was transported to Adventist Medical Center, in Hanford, where she died.
Richard Herrara, a passenger in the Sport Utility Vehicle, sustained minor injuries and was taken to the Hanford hospital.
Gomez sustained major injuries and was transported to Kaweah Delta in Visalia. She was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving.
