As the Hyundai drove around a curve at 60 mph, north of Highway 198, Murillo lost control.  The automobile veered onto a dirt shoulder, then spun out crossing both lanes of the road, and hit a boulder.  The Elantra then overturned and hit a tree, where it came to rest on its roof.

Delariva who was a passenger in the backseat was pronounced dead at the scene.

Cisneros and Diaz suffered moderate to major injuries; including broken bones.  Murillo sustained minor injuries and was arrested for driving while intoxicated.

The fourth passenger fled the scene on foot.

The three backseat passengers were reported to have not been wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.
