A man and his unborn baby passed away in a car accident in California, and the police say the man who hit them was under the influence. On top of that, reports show that he had previously been arrested and convicted on drunk driving charges twice.
This accident happened in Victorville earlier this month. The man allegedly ran through a stop sign and slammed into the side of a Honda Accord, hitting the driver’s side door.
The man who was driving the car, who was 35 years old, was gravely injured. His wife, who is 23 years old, and his mother-in-law were in the vehicle with him. His wife was pregnant, but the child was killed. The man was rushed to a medical center for treatment, but he passed away.
The couple already had a pair of children. The next baby girl was supposed to be born in about eight weeks, but the trauma of the crash was too much.
The police arrested the driver who allegedly blew the stop sign, booking him on allegations of causing significant injuries while under the influence and being intoxicated while committing gross vehicular manslaughter. That driver was also hurt in the crash, but his injuries were described as minor.
The mother-in-law said that man should never have been behind the wheel.
A tragic car accident like this can change the lives of surviving family members forever, especially when one parent is no longer around to care for and provide for young children. It’s important for the family to know whether or not they can seek financial compensation.
