Bus vs. Car Collision Ends in Fatality, in Tulare, at Cartmill Avenue and Oakmore Street

On Tuesday, January 17, 2017, a bus crash killed two people, in Tulare.  The vehicle collision happened at Cartmill Avenue, and Oakmore Street, at approximately 8 PM.

A Tulare County Area Transit bus, driven by Daniel Johnson, 48, of Tulare, was driving east on Cartmill Ave.

At that time a 2011 Ford Fiesta, driven by Jascinda Avina, 18, of Visalia, with a female passenger, was headed southbound on Oakmore St.

At the intersection, the Ford failed to stop and the bus crashed into the car.  The automobile rolled over and hit a fence.  Avina was ejected from the Ford.

The bus then caught fire and Johnson had to be pulled from the vehicle.

Avina and her passenger both died at the scene of the accident.

Johnson suffered severe injuries.  He was transported to Community Regional Medical Center, in Fresno, for treatment.

No one else was in the transit bus at the time of the crash.

There are reports that said that the stop sign on southbound Oakmore has been down for months now. An investigation is needed to determine whether this is fact.
