Van Hits Toddler and Mother in a Collision on Mooney Boulevard, in Visalia

October 17, 2016- Two pedestrians were seriously injured in a van collision, on Monday, in Tulare County.  The Visalia traffic accident occurred at the intersection of Mooney Boulevard and Sunnyside Avenue, near Burger King, during the morning hours.

23-year-old Michaela Matthews was crossing in a crosswalk, at the intersection of Mooney Blvd., and Sunnyside Ave., while holding her 2-year-old daughter in her arms.

As the two pedestrians walked across the street, a silver Toyota minivan, driven by 74-year-old Danny Rivera, hit them.  The van stopped after the toddler struck the windshield.

Matthews and the little girl suffered severe injuries and were last reported to be in critical condition.  They were taken to Kaweah Delta Medical Center, in Visalia.  Then the child was rushed on to Valley Children’s Hospital.

Rivera said he didn’t see the pedestrians, because of the sun and a pillar in his vehicle.
