Central Valley Personal Injury Lawyer John Rozier had the following collision report; On Wednesday, October 26, 2016, a DUI accident occurred in Merced. The head-on van crash happened on Highway 99, at around 3:44 PM.
Darrell Johnson, 42, of Fresno, was driving a 2003 Dodge Caravan on a high-speed chase, trying to outrun law enforcement.
The grey van entered the southbound freeway of State Route 99, at the Childs Avenue exit. Johnson continued driving north on the south highway at a dangerous speed.
At that time a 2014 Toyota Camry, driven by Joe Torrez Chavez, 51, was traveling on Hwy 99 in the southbound lanes. The driver attempted to swerve out of the way of the Dodge but was unable to. The two vehicles collided head-on.
Johnson sustained major injuries and was taken to Doctors Medical Center, in Modesto.
Chavez, and passenger Mao Ly, 36, of Merced, suffered moderate injuries. And Sai Fo Saechao, another occupant in the Toyota, suffered serious injuries. They were taken to local hospitals for treatment.
Johnson was arrested for driving while under the influence, and other charges.
