On Sunday, September 18, 2016, a drunk driving collision ended in fatality and multiple injuries to others, in Stratford. The Kings County vehicle accident happened on Highway 41, near Main Street, at around 5:00 PM.
20-year-old Victor Nava, of Santa Maria, was driving a 2000 Honda while intoxicated, headed northbound on State Route 41. The Honda swerved into the southbound lane of the highway, near Main Street.
At that time a US Forest Service truck, driven by Vernon Smith, 54, of Sonora, was traveling south on the highway. The car crashed head-on into the 2007 Ford utility truck.
The front passenger in the Honda was pronounced dead at the scene.
Nava and two other passengers in the automobile suffered severe injuries. They were taken to Community Regional Medical Center for treatment.
Smith was not harmed in the collision.
It is reported that Nava will be arrested for felony DUI once he is released from the hospital.
