Tractor-Trailer Collision Kills One on Bear Mountain Boulevard, in Bakersfield

July 26, 2016- A tractor-trailer accident ended fatally for one man, in Bakersfield, on Tuesday.  The Kern County car collision happened on Highway 223, near Ashe Road, at about 4 AM.

Gonzalo Topete, 22, was driving a Chevy Cavalier eastbound on Bear Mountain Boulevard.

At the same time a semi truck was headed west on State Route 223.  A pickup truck behind the big rig, tried to pass the vehicle and drove right into the path of the Chevrolet.

Topete attempted to swerve out of the way of the pickup, and ended up right in the lane of the semi truck.

The car and big rig collided, and the auto ended up partially underneath the semi.

The pickup truck involved fled the scene, and authorities are now trying to find the driver.

Topete suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
