On Thursday, July 14, 2016, a big rig collision ended in fatality in the Castaic area of Interstate 5, just south of Kern County. The semi truck accident occurred in the southbound lanes of I-5, at around 11:30 AM.
A female Bakersfield resident was driving a white 2015 Lexus ES350 on the southbound I-5 freeway. The Lexus approached a 2015 Peterbilt tractor-trailer, hauling a tanker filled with orange juice.
The big rig drifted across all lanes of the highway and the Lexus drove directly into the path of the truck.
The driver attempted to avoid the car by steering the rig to the right. The semi truck lost control and drove off the freeway and down an embankment where it rolled.
The big rig driver suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene.
No other injuries were reported.
