On Monday, May 2, 2016, a multiple vehicle crash occurred in Madera County, causing major injuries. The semi truck accident happened on Highway 41, south of Coarsegold, at 10:00 AM.
A big rig carrying a large septic tank trailer was driving on State Route 41, near Road 406. Traffic in front of the tractor-trailer was stopped for road construction.
The rig was unable to stop in time, although it attempted to miss traffic. It drove up the side of the mountain and overturned onto two other vehicles.
A white SUV was one of the vehicles trapped partially under the semi, and an automobile was smashed underneath the rear of the trailer.
The big rig driver suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to Community Regional Medical Center, in Fresno.
Two other people sustained severe injuries and were also taken by helicopter to the hospital.
Other victims sustained injuries as well, and were taken by ambulance for treatment.
