Fiery Big Rig Collision on Interstate 5 Ends Fatally, Near Coalinga

On Wednesday, May 18, 2016, a semi truck rollover accident took place on Interstate 5, in Fresno County.  The fiery big rig collision which ended in fatality, occurred near Coalinga, at around 11:50 PM.

A 2006 Freightliner, driven by a 49 year old man from LA, was driving northbound on the I-5 freeway, near Jayne Avenue.  The tractor-trailer did not notice a 2000 Isuzu box truck that had slowed down because of mechanical issues.

The big rig attempted to brake and swerve out of the way to avoid a collision with the truck.  The driver lost control and the Freightliner overturned and was soon engulfed in flames.

The Isuzu, driven by a 33 year old Avenal man, ran off the highway onto the right shoulder.

The semi truck driver died at the scene.

The box truck driver was not hurt.
