Semi Truck Carrying Chickens Crashes on Highway 99, near Bakersfield

On Thursday, December 31, 2015, a big rig carrying chickens was involved in an accident on Highway 99, near State Route 46.  The tractor-trailer rollover collision happened north of Bakersfield, in Kern County, at around 1:00 AM.

The CHP have reported that the semi truck lost control while traveling in the southbound lanes of Highway 99, south of McFarland.  The rig overturned, which caused the trailer to detach and cover three lanes of traffic on the freeway.

A Geo Metro then crashed into the trailer.  The victim suffered minor to moderate injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

No other injuries have been reported.

Issues still remaining to be investigated include determining the speed of the big rig, whether road conditions may have contributed to this accident, and whether the facts of this accident as reported are accurate.
