Four-Vehicle Collision Kills One on Highway 46, near Wasco, in Kern County

January 16, 2016- A multiple vehicle collision involving a tractor-trailer, ended in fatality, on Saturday.  The Kern County big rig accident happened near Wasco, northwest of Bakersfield, on Highway 46, at about 6:12 PM.

Leonardo Mendoza, of Lost Hills, was driving his automoible west on State Route 46.  Mendoza attempted to pass a Freightliner by switching into the eastbound lane of the highway, east of McKibben Road.


The car crashed head-on into a Honda Accord, driven by Manuel Martinez, 43.  A Dodge Charger then collided with the Honda.

Martinez died at the scene of the accident.  His passengers’; Elizabeth Martinez, 7, and Virginia Martinez, 41, were also hurt.  The child suffered severe injuries, and the woman minor ones.

Mendoza also sustained major injuries.

The driver of the Dodge, and the tractor were not harmed.
