September 22, 2015- A pickup truck and big rig crash killed two people, in Kern County, on Tuesday. The tractor-trailer accident happened in Arvin, at 6:16 AM, on Tejon Highway.
A Chevrolet pickup truck, driven by 61 year old Jose Magana, of Wasco, was headed in the area of Buena Vista Boulevard and Tejon Highway. At the intersection of the two roadways, the Chevy failed to stop at the posted stop sign.
The pickup truck crashed into a big rig carrying 78,000 pounds of gravel, that had been traveling at 55 mph. Authorities reported that the semi did not have time to stop before the two vehicles collided.
Magana, and his female passenger; Jovita Florentino, 60, of Wasco, were pronounced dead at the scene of the incident.
The Freightliner’s driver was not hurt.
Issues still remaining to be investigated include determining the speed of the big rig, whether road conditions may have contributed to this accident, and whether the facts of this accident as reported are accurate.
