More people than expected not wearing seat belts

On Novemebr 18 the Bakersfield Californian reported that 51 people were cited with not wearing seat belts just on Union Avenue. National studies have shown that 90 to 95 percent of people comply with the seat belt law. Fifty-one citations on one road in one day seems proportionally high. By not wearing a seat belt a motorist is putting themself at risk for being ejected from the car should a crash occur. Seat belts have been proven time and time again to save lives and are worth whatever discomfort or inconvenience may come from buckling up. Don’t become a statistic. /
