Semi Truck Crash on Highway 99 and 58 Shut Down Freeway in Bakersfield

February 28, 2014- A semi truck crash shut down a part of both Highway 99 and Highway 58 in Bakersfield, California on Friday morning.  The accident occurred at about 8:20 AM, on an overpass of Highway 58 east. CHP have reported that the driver of the big rig was merging from southbound Hwy 99, to eastbound Hwy 58.  The officer said the tractor-trailer was driving too fast for the rainy road conditions, and swerved along both sides of the freeway, before jack-knifing and catching on fire.

The semi was dangling off the overpass above Highway 99.  The freeway was closed, because of plummeting debris. It was said that 2-3 other cars were involved in the collision, but no one was hurt.

Caltrans will come in to inspect the overpass to make sure it is safe to drive on before vehicles can use that part of the highway again.
