Double Fatality on Highway 46

September 2, 2011- a crash Friday night left two teenagers from Hanford dead, and four others with serious injuries. The accident occurred at about 9 PM.The crash happened along Highway 46, east of Cholame in San Luis Obispo County, southwest of Visalia. A 1998 Toyota Camry carrying six teens, was traveling eastbound on Highway 46. The driver, April Canseco of Stratford, lost control of the Camry when it blew a rear tire and hit the center divider, just west of Kecks Road. The blown tire caused the car to roll several times.

Two of the passengers, Itzyana Chaidez and Richard Hernandez, were thrown from the car during the crash and were pronounced dead at the scene. The other teens; Canseco, Raul Rodriguez of Corcoran, Gilbert Navarro of Corcoran, and a 17 year old girl, were taken to Kern Medical Center with serious injuries.CHP reported that there were not enough seat belts in the Toyota for all the occupants. March 11 San Luis Obispo County wrongful death accident a dui case

On March 11 Alicia Renee Carreras was killed in a wrongful death accident in San Luis Obispo County. Reportedly Carreras was driving north on the Nipoma Mesa at Stanton Road south of Lyn Road when she veered off the road and hit a tree. Toxicology reports showed that she had been drinking and had marijuana in her system. Carreras was killed as a result of the impact of the crash. /

September crash at Hearst Ranch in San Luis Obispo County killed one; driver traveling over 105 mph

In September there was a wrongful death accident at Hearst Ranch in San Luis Obispo County that involved a Range Rover that was traveling in excess of 105 mph. The Range Rover was driven by Kurt Duncan Naegele. Naegele is now facing charges of vehicular manslaughter among others. Darren Dahlman was killed in the accident. Naegele along with Christopher Pennell, and Ryan Doheny were injured in the accident. /

March 11 San Luis Obispo County wrongful death accident

On March 11 an Arroyo Grande woman was killed in a wrongful death accident on Stanton Road near Lyn Road in San Luis Obispo County. Reportedly the woman's Nissan Maxima veered off the western edge of the road and hit a tree. The vehicle was not discovered until almost 2 1/2 hours later. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. /

Kettleman City to offer Traffic Safety workshop

On March 6 Kettleman City is offering a traffic safety workshop. The purpose of the workshop is to discuss ways to make Highway 41 safer for both pedestrians and motorists.  Topics to be discussed include better signs, better design of the highway, lower speed limit, more-defined crosswalks, flashing signs, and other options for making the roadway safer. The section of Highway 41 near Kettleman City has been the site of several accidents involving vehicles and pedestrians.

February 21 pedestrian accident in San Luis Obispo

On February 21 Madeline Mezgar was hospitalized after being hit by a car in a pedestrian accident on California Boulevard in San Luis Obispo. Mezger was crossing California Boulevard from the railroad tracks when she stopped in the middle of the road. Mezger was wearing black clothing and the driver of the Nissan that hit her did not see her until it was too late to stop.  She was taken to Sierra Vista Regional Hospital with serious injuries. /

December 19 Highway 101 fatal pedestrian accident

On December 19 Ismael Gamboa was killed when he was hit by a car while walking along Highway 101 in San Luis Obispo. He was hit by a BMW driven by George Patton of Fresno. Patton was driving southbound in the fast lane near Madonna Road when he hit Gamboa. Gamboa had been walking along the right southbound shoulder when he ran directly into traffic. After the accident, Patton was found to be drunk and was booked into th county jail on suspicion of driving under the influence. /

December 16 accident on Highway 101 near Paso Robles

On December 16 parts of Highway 101 were closed after an accident north of Paso Robles. The accident occurred around 6:42 am between a pickup truck and a big rig. Reportedly, the big rig was jack knifed in the lanes of the highway and there was a man pinned inside the pickup truck. Details about the cause of the crash and the extent of injuries is unavailable at this time. /

December 11 Kettleman City Accident may have caused a fatality

On December 11 a rollover crash was reported on 21st Avenue near Utica Avenue, southeast of Kettleman City. The accident may have caused a fatality according to the California Highway Patrol. No other information is available at this time. /
