Two Motorcyclists Killed in Vehicle Collision in Bakersfield on Wilson Road

Santiago Algandar Soto and Lorena Villalba Espinoza of Bakersfield were killed on Wednesday, October 2 when their motorcycles were struck by a sedan which failed to yield to the cyclists' right of way according to Bakersfield Police Department.

January 8 dog bite incident in Kern County

On January 8 three-year-old Naveah Sherrell was bitten by a dog while playing in her aunt's front yard on Mount View Avenue in Taft. Reportedly Naveah was playing with two other children in the fenced-in yard when the dog, who had escaped from his yard, came up to the fence. The children were feeding the dog bread. then the other children came inside to report that Naveah had been bitten. Her aunt, Katrina Phillips, rushed outside and saw Naveah's face bleeding and reported that she "could see her bones and flesh." Naveah was taken to urgent care for medical attention then taken via ambulance to Kern Medical Center. The dog, described as a 160-pound English Mastiff named Daytona. Daytona did not have a prior record of aggressive behavior and was placed on quarantine for 10 days.

October 31 Highway 99 accident near Tulare/Kern County line

On October 31 one juvenile man was seriously injured in an accident on Highway 99 near the line between Tulare County and Kern County. According to reports the driver of the vehicle lost control and rolled over while traveling southbound right after 11 pm. Three juveniles in the vehicle fled the scene of the accident on foot leaving the victim behind. One, the driver, was caught. The driver and the victim were both from Delano.

September 18 Delano motorcycle accident

On September 18 Valentin Cruz was injured when his motorcycle after being hit by a car in Delano. According to reports Cruz was westbound on Avenue 8 when he was hit by an eastbound vehicle. The accident happened near intersection of Road 184 and Avenue 8. The driver of the car fled the scene of the accident. Cruz's injuries included a broken arm and leg.

August 28 Kern County boating accident kills one

On August 28 Salvador Rodriguez was killed in a boating accident at the Buena Vista Aquatic Recreational Area in Kern County. Rodriguez was driving his boat on Lake Webb when it was hit by another boat driven by Justin Mark Ennis. Ennis was arrested for boating under the influence and manslaughter. He also was in violation of his parole from a previous sentencing. Further details regarding the accident are unavailable at this time.

April 5 fatal accident on Highway 46 kills three

On April 5 three people were killed in a wrongful death accident on Highway 46 near Lost Hills. The accident was a head-on collision between a van and a Jeep Cherokee. Three people were pinned in the vehicles and were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. Two other people were taken to the hospital to be treated for injuries. There was a small fire in the van which firefighter crews attended to. The stretch of highway was closed for about four hours after the accident. This stretch of highway has been given the nick name Blood Alley due to the high number of fatal crashes that occur here. /

March 21 bicycle accident in Terra Bella

On March 21 a seven-year-old boy was hit by a minivan while riding his bicycle in Terra Bella. Reportedly the boy was hit in the 23700 block of Avenue 95. March 10 School Bus Accident in Bakersfield

On March 10 a school bus was involved in an accident in front of Rabobank Arena in Bakersfield. The accident occurred when a pickup truck cut off the bus causing the driving to slam on the brakes. The bus held 8 and 9 year old students from Eissler Elementary School. Twelve students were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. All have since been released from the hospital. /

February 27 wrongful death accident on Highway 46 in Kern County near San Luis Obispo County

On February 27 Sandy Blakes Roberts of Florida was killed in a wrongful death accident on Highway 46 in Kern County near San Luis Obispo County. Reportedly Roberts was a passenger in a vehicle driven by Nicole C. Deane. Deane was passing a pickup truck at a fast speed when she lost control of the vehicle. Her car then crashed with a Chevrolet driven by Luis Carlos Mosqueda. Roberts was taken to the hospital and died there. Deane is being treated for major injuries at Kern Medical Center in Bakersfield. Mosqueda along with Manuel and Maria Mosqueda and a third passenger Karla E. Reyes are all being treated for moderate injuries at Mercy Southwest Hospital in Bakersfield.
