Bus Accident in Fresno Kills Pedestrian, at Fruit and Shields Avenues

On Friday, January 19, 2018, a hit-and-run bus accident ended in fatality, in central Fresno.  The pedestrian collision took place on Shields Avenue, at approximately 6:10 AM.

According to reports, Rudy Alderette was driving an FAX bus north on Fruit Avenue.  At the intersection of Shields Avenue, Javier Garcia Silva, who had the right-of-way, was walking across the road.


The city bus made a left turn from Fruit onto Shields and struck the walker.  Then bus then continued to drive away.

Silva died at the scene.

Later Alderette said that he thought he had run over a box, not realizing he hit a pedestrian.  He is being charged with vehicular manslaughter.
