Fresno County Big Rig Crash Ends Fatally for Motorcyclist at Mt. Whitney Avenue and Highway 41

On Monday, April 24, 2017, a big rig accident ended in fatality for a Riverdale motorcyclist.  The Fresno County semi truck crash happened at Highway 41 and Mt. Whitney Avenue, at 5:14 AM.

Eric Leoni was riding a Harley Davidson eastbound on Mt. Whitney Avenue.  At the intersection of Highway 41, the motorcycle stopped for a red light.

While waiting for the light to turn green, the biker was struck from behind by a stolen Lowe’s Freightliner flatbed semi.  The tractor-trailer, which was driven by Nicholas Laurent Appert, 20, of San Francisco, continued on into a nearby field, with the Harley and rider trapped underneath.

Appert attempted to flee on foot, following the incident.  But was soon caught.

Leoni died at the scene.

The suspect was arrested and reports claim he could’ve been under the influence of narcotics.
