July 11, 2016- A semi truck accident ended in fatality southeast of Mendota, on Monday. The Fresno County pickup collision occurred on Jefferson Avenue, at approximately 1:37 PM.
A 2010 GMC pickup, driven by Herman Toews, 74, was traveling east on W. Jefferson Avenue. West of Santa Fe Road the truck veered into the oncoming lane of traffic.
The pickup drove into the path of a Peterbuilt semi, driven by a Los Banos man, 71. It is reported that the big rig’s driver attempted to get out of the way, but was unable to, and the two vehicles crashed head-on.
Toews suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene of the crash.
The Los Banos man sustained serious injuries. He was taken by helicopter to Community Regional Medical Center, in Fresno.
