Tulare County vehicle collision ends in fatality for 18-month-old boy, on Friday, April 3, 2015. The Porterville accident involved a United States Post Office delivery truck, at about 1:30 in the afternoon.
The U.S. postal vehicle was out delivering mail in the area of Delta Street and Aurora Avenue. It had stopped in front of a home at 481 N. Delta Street. When it pulled away from the residence the truck struck a toddler boy, who has been identified as T.J. Trevino.
Neighbors reported that the small child has been playing in the front yard of the residence, when suddenly he darted out into the street.
The postal worker was reported to have stopped and got out of his vehicle to help with the boy. Witnesses said that it looked like the toddler was not breathing after being struck.
T.J. suffered serious injuries and was taken to Sierra View Medical Center, in Porterville for treatment. He later died in the hospital.
Guillermo Trevino, T.J.’s father, is asking for support from the community.
The collision continues to be under investigation.
